J&K records highest single-day spike of 1,592 cases


Srinagar, Sep 10 (IANS): Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday reported 1,592 new Covid-19 cases, the highest single-day spike recorded so far, taking the Union Territory's coronavirus tally past the 49,000-mark to 49,134.

A statement issued by the Information and Public Relations Department said that of the 1,592 new cases, 770 were from Jammu division and 822 from Kashmir division.

Thirteen patients died on Thursday, of which eight were from Jammu division and five from Kashmir division, taking the UT's Covid-19 death toll to 845.

On a positive note, 34,215 persons have recovered from the disease so far. The number of active cases in the UT stands at 14,074, of which 7,299 were are from Jammu division and 6775 from Kashmir division.
