Government Doesn't Pay for Kalam's Foreign Trips

New Delhi, April 3 (IANS) The government Saturday clarified that it was not paying for former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam's foreign trips, saying his travel expenses were borne by his hosts.

A report in a national daily March 12 had suggested that ever since demitting office in 2007, Kalam has been a "frequent flyer" and the government was "looking to see if it can put a cap on such visits".

"It is clarified that the cost of the foreign travels of A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former president of India, has been borne usually by his hosts and not the government of India," a statement from the Prime Minister's Office said.

"There is no proposal before the government to put any kind of restriction on the foreign travels of former presidents," the statement added.

We can see how caste play a big role in politics by looking into the user comments in daiji columns... It's always party based comments - whatever issue comes some castes will support cong and others will support BJP - no matter what is the truth. Mostly going fwd we will have parties with caste names :)

Dear Mr. Langoolacharya, Belman/USA, through your comment and Mr. Alwyn comment it is presumable that both the congress and bjp are utilizing public funds as per their whims and fancies. Am I right? If so why you haven't asked Mr. Nagesh Nayak for commenting only for congress leader? By they way I quote your words " What say you?...... Unquote. Is this English? I go you go both go? Mr. Vajayapayee was using expensive car with all amnesties inside the car. Our beloved and humble Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh rejected this car and using only a simple car.

Nag(u)Esha, you have problem with chartered flights or with APJ? Read the news before commenting. What does the last sentence of the news say? Doon't just see the heading and comment just. I have seen 'worst' idiots than you but have surely not come across anyone who is 'better' than you. Who told you that Rahul and Priyanka flew to Kerala for wedding on govt expences? Nagesha ninagyake ei avesha? Moreover even if the govt puts a cap on APJ's 'flying' expences, what is wrong in that? If he is going outside the country at his own and for his own purpose, does it really needed to be funded by govt just because he happens to be a former President? If this has to be so, then all former PMs, Prezs, their deputies etc need to be paid their personal expences also. Is that okay with you? Your support to APJ really does not stem out from your appreciation for his personality but just because he was the President of the country during NDA regime.

True? First of all BJP had hardly to do anything with APJ's appointment as his name was first suggested by Mulayam and BJP had zeroed in on at least 3 persons but could not pursue their case because none of these were acceptable to all the parties. Neither BJP was willing to give another term to K R Narayanan who had openly taken then PM Vajpayee and his govt to task over Godhra and several issues. So APJ was chosen. Now that he is retired, I don't think his personal needs to be taken care of by govt and APJ surely does not like that either!
