I totally agree with you Gerald. Although new talents are appearing in our community by their hard work (without God Fathers) and try to create their own style of music, such composers are frequently criticized by asking ‘Is this Konkani Music ?, if you don’t try to improvise then they will term as ‘ this is old type of music. So I don’t understand what exactly our community wants, neither they appreciate nor encourage. Some people have high expectations with limited knowledge of music. It seems to me that Konkani music will not survive for long and will eventually fade out if we do not accept some reasonable changes in music formats.
Today in Konkani music, there are only a few genuine artists who are capable of producing their own Albums (writing their own lyrics, compose music & tunes). However they are hidden by mass numbers of ordinary singers who simply sing other’s creations and gain questionable popularity. If original talent is not recognized and supported, it will not be surprising to hear the same handful of Konkani songs in each and every show. If due credit is not given to the originality then how do you expect growth in Konkani Music ? So where is the platform for them perform, obviously some will quit and others are forced to quit.

Good thought by Arun & Nancy..being a die hard konkani music fan I would like to raise a larger issue here what is the future of konkani music Its true that our legendry and elder musicians have done a lot good to konkani but now is it time for them and us to give stage to young and genunine talents not those winners of talent hunt competitions but real musicians has termed by Nancy who produce albums, perform shows and promise the betterment of konkani music...

I feel the real talents of konkani music are hidden and struggling as mentioned by Arun while the lesser achievers are getting all the support and publicity just by winning in some reality competetions(I dont mean to say that there is no effort in winning competitions or no need of organising them but just want to tell that the larger issue is the growth of konkani music culture which can be done by young composers and producers, so they need to be encouraged a bit more or else they may quit)

There are are very few talented young composers n perfomers who bring out albums in konkani among the younger generation...these associations should find such persons n encourage them before they loose interest in konkani art rather than only doing such shows...

I follow konkani music scene very closely I dont want to name anybody but there is some genuine talent in mlore who has consistently performed through his albums n shows in the last few years but sadly I have not seen any major organisations supporting them, they had performed a concert earlier this year and had announced to perform the same again in mlore but dropped because they could not find enough sponsors when there are so many meaningless programes going on with big sponsors with no use to konkani...lets support our young generation to kkeep konkani alive...

The local organizers of GVOM in Doha, which is Mangalore Cultrual Association (MCA, Doha Qatar) had given a chance for not only the Winner ( 2nd runner up) Edward Roshan but also the semifinalists of Doha to perform during their Annual program which was the “Mhataro Sorbela” drama, it was witnessed by a large crowd at Doha Cinema.

GVOM can be considered as a huge platform for Singers where they get recognition which could be used by the participants in their future endeavors. Encourage your local singers to take part in this.. Don’t discourage them .

Good question Reyan, where are the 3 winners, one who is in Doha was not even seen on the stage unless he has disguised himself. The platform is excellent, one who devised it congrats to him, he must have done to keep Konkani music alive, but do you think real artist / singers / musician will be ever get a chance in these types of organiszation leave alone Album. I hope the Konkani music will not become extinct, as it our younger generation dont even speak konkani, whoever are striving hard to make some good Konkani Albums are either critized or eliminated from the scene. Good Luck to all contestants.

Hats off to GVM and the related organisers. I totally agree the doubt raised by Reyan Kuwait. Since I am employed in Jeddah Saudi Arabia, I never had a chance to hear Vinay Lewis or other finalists last year or the prior organized pragrams. I am a born singer and having releasing my first devotional album "Tujea Shetant" last December and producing a Konkani musical nite in 1989 in Don Bosco Hall, Mangalore, I will not hesitate to offer a chance to Vinay Lewis and other new winners to sing in my next double album which will be released within 3 couple of months from now. ALL THE BEST and BETTER LUCK for GVM 2010.

It is a good news indeed. But the main question is here, will the winners and finalists (entire GVM)get any chance in future to sing in the new konkani albums. I dont think so when i see Vinal Luwis and other ten finalists of last GVM. It is going to be a just talent hunt. Not Talent Use.
