Dubai: SMKC Announces Variety Entertainment Contest

Dubai, Apr 11: St Mary’s Konkan Community (SMKC) Dubai, a premier social and cultural organization based in Dubai, has announced the presentation of ‘Variety Entertainment Competition’ for the Konkan community living in the United Arab Emirates on Friday June 25, 2010 at Dubai Gems Pvt School, Dubai. The Variety Competition will be held from 9.30 am to 6.00 pm.
Members of Konkani Zamat /Konkani Associations based in the UAE are eligible to participate in this competition and showcase their talents. This event will not only provide a platform for the ‘Konkani’ culture and language to flourish, but also enables the new and old artistes alike to exhibit and put to test their talents, said Jennifer Mascarenhas, main coordinator of SMKC Dubai, in a communiqué to the media. She further emphasized that SMKC Dubai was the first organization to hold such a talent show way back in 2003. It was a run-away success then, and she said, she hopes to repeat the same magic once again.
The rules and regulations for participation in this talent show are as follows:
- The participation is restricted to the Konkani community from the UAE only.
- The group performances should consist of: Folk Dance, Group Singing, and a Skit.
- Presentation of the item should be in Konkani language alone.
- A group should have a minimum of 8 members to a maximum of 15 members on the stage (no age limit is set).
- Maximum time allowed for the group performance will be 20 minutes. Additional time of not more than five minutes will be given for setting up of the stage.
- The group can bring its own MC (compere) to host their group performance.
- A special reward for the ‘outstanding MC’ will be awarded, irrespective of the winning team.
- Use of indecent language, direct or indirect attack on any caste, religion or individual etc., are strictly prohibited.
- Hazardous materials such as fire crackers and other explosives are not allowed on stage.
- Participating groups can use their own music / instruments on stage.
- Performance will be judged based on originality, creativity and coordination.
- A panel of judges will be appointed and their decision is final. Any disagreement thereafter will not be entertained.
- Non refundable registration fee is AED 250.00 per team
- Last date for registration is April 25, 2010.
- The winner will be given a cash reward of AED 2,500. The first runner up will be given AED 1,500, while a cash prize of AED 1,000 will be given to the second runner up group.
- The groups are requested to hurry up and register themselves, as a maximum of 10 to 12 entries only will be allowed.
- Entry for the members of the public will be free. Lunch will also be served free of cost.
The programme will be hosted by Uttam Menezes, a popular MC from Dubai, and Reshma Cutinho, a budding compere, who will keep the audience entertained through out the event.
