Bengaluru: By-polls to Sira, Rajarajeshwarinagar on Nov 3, polls to 4 Council seats on Oct 28

Bengaluru, Sep 29: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday announced by-elections for two Karnataka Legislative Assembly constituencies of Sira and elections to fill Rajarajeshwarinagar and elections for four Legislative Council seats.

While the by-elections to two Assembly constituencies would be held on November 3, polls to four seats of the Legislative Council would be held on October 28.

By-polls in Sira necessitated following the death of JD(S) MLA B Sathyanarayana, while in Rajarajeshwarinagar owing to the resignation of Munirathna, who was elected as a Congress MLA in 2018 and then quit the party and joined the BJP along with 13 other Congress and three JD(S) MLAs last year.

By-elections to the Rajarajeshwarinagar constituency was withheld owing to a pending election malpractice case. While October 16 is the last day for filing nominations for by-elections. The last day for withdrawal of nominations is October 19. The counting of votes would take place on
November 10.

The model code of conduct comes into effect from today in Bengaluru urban and Tumakuru districts, the Election Commission said.

Polls for 4 Council seats:

Elections to fill up two graduate constituencies - South East and Karnataka West; and two Teachers’ constituencies - North East and Bengaluru - would be held on October 28.

The model code of conduct has come into effect today in these constituencies. The last date for filing nominations is October 8. The last day for withdrawal of nominations is October 12. The counting of votes will be on November 2.  

Four seats became vacant after R Chowda Reddy Toopahalli, Sharanappa Mattur, S V Sankanur and Puttanna retired on June 30.
