Mangaluru, Sep 30: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Mayor Diwakar said that one month time will be given to pay property tax without penalty within MCC limits.
Addressing the media here on Wednesday September 30, the mayor said, "Due to coronavirus, the time period to pay property tax was given up to September 30. Now it has been extended up to October end without any penalty. After November 1, penalty will be imposed for paying property tax."
MCC commissioner Akshy Shridhar said, "We have a system for self-proclaimed property tax submission. The evaluation of property tax will be done properly if the building owners give correct information about the materials used and the area. In some cases, we have noticed that wrong information is given while submitting the documents.
“We have conducted drives to remove flex banners across the city. There is no scope to install flex banners without licence. If anyone is found installing flex banners illegally, action will be taken against them," he said.
“Trial run for online trade licence will be conducted from October 2. We have installed software for online trade licence which was sanctioned in the MCC general meeting. So a trial run will be conducted from October 2. In the next one week, traders and officials will be trained about the trade licence software. The software has features such as application, renewal of licence, to suspend trade licence, photo upload, pay fees through online and many more.
"Fine will be imposed from October 2 if anyone fails to segregate dry and wet waste. The dry waste will be collected on Fridays, while on other days, wet waste will be collected. As per the solid waste management bye laws 2019, there is provision of imposing fines from Rs 1,500 to Rs 5,000. Even the waste pertaining to bio-medical and buildings should not be disposed in open places or else fines will be imposed from Rs 15,000 to 25,000.
“Selling and usage of plastic carry bags has been banned in the MCC limits. If anyone is found selling and using plastic carry bags, fines will be imposed between Rs 1,500 up to Rs 25,000 and cases will be filed against them,” he said.
Regarding central market, the commissioner said, "Only those who carry valid documents are allowed to function at the central market. As many as 100 traders have been given licence and Aadhar card, but only 35 have valid documents.
“Traders who possess trade licence in their name and run business at central market will be allowed to function. In many cases, licence has been issued in one person’s name and business is done by someone else which is not allowed. MCC health officers have stated that the central market is not safe in terms of corona pandemic, while engineers have stated that central market building is unsafe. So during the time of new market construction, alternative arrangements will be made for the traders.
"The Pacchanady dump yard consists of six lac tons of garbage which is spread across 25 acres, in which 13.5 acre is private land which was affected during the garbage slide. Regarding disposing of waste, we have submitted a report to the government and are waiting for final orders. We have submitted a report as per the advice of experts to dispose waste through bio mining and bio remedies,” he said.
“We have noticed that footpaths have been encroached by shops. They will be given one week time to clear the footpaths and later a drive will be conducted to evict, the mayor said.
MCC deputy commissioner Dr Santhosh Kumar, revenue officer Binoy and others were present.
