Mangaluru: Wretched roads - Mithun Rai poses ‘Road Challenge’ to highway minister

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Sep 30: The important highways which connect the district with Goa, Kochi, Solapur in Maharashtra etc are in a very bad shape. Dakshina Kannada district Youth Congress president, Mithun Rai, who has expressed his indignation at the state of these roads, has posed 'Road Challenge' to the union minister for highways, Nitin Gadkari.

The Mangaluru-Bengaluru national highway 75 and Mangaluru-Solapur national highway 169 are in total disrepair. Vehicle riders are finding it hard to negotiate these roads. In normal course, travel time from Bengaluru to Mangaluru is six to seven hours, but now it takes more than nine to ten hours. Accidents between Kulshekar and Vamanjoor have become a routine affair," he has mentioned.

Mithun has tweeted to minister, Nitin Gadkari, and MPs Nalin Kumar Kateel and Prajwal Revanna, drawing their attention to the fact that pleas sent to the department highways to repair the highway has fallen on deaf ears.

Rai has posted '#Road Challenge' video on his Facebook page and twitter. Many have re-tweeted and shared his posts. The video of the bad shape of the highway in particular is becoming viral in the social media.

Now we are experiencing new moon surface on our highways. NASA need not spend so much, just come to DK. They can have case study. May be few are happy to travel on these roads. Please wait for next budget. We will have crores of rupees sanctioned for relaying of these roads...only on paper.
