International flights to remain suspended till Oct 31

New Delhi, Sep 30 (IANS): The Central government on Wednesday extended the suspension of scheduled commercial international flight operations to and from India till October 31.

"This restriction shall not apply to international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)," an official statement said.

"However, international scheduled flights may be allowed on selected routes by the competent authority on a case to case basis," it added.

Passenger air services were suspended on March 25 due to the nationwide lockdown to check the spread of Covid-19. Domestic flight services, however, resumed from May 25.

This International flight suspension is on going Saga since June-20. There is No sign of declining Covid cases in India and India will stand No.1 position by end of Oct.20. It's better to suspend International flights till end of year instead of announcing beginning of every month.

Why only bar international flights when everything else is open? When over five million are infected with Corona , a small number of international arrivals does not make any significant difference. If you are waiting for Corona to disappear and then think about resume flight operations then you may have to wait for another two years.
