Minister Dr K Sudhakar says: No mask? Pay Rs 1,000 fine

Bengaluru, Oct 1 (IANS): In the wake of rising Covid-19 cases, Karnataka on Wednesday declared that the penalty for not wearing a mask in public places would be increased to Rs 1000 in urban areas while it is Rs 500 in rural areas.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with officers here, Karnataka Medical Education minister Dr K. Sudhakar asserted people have begun displaying negligence by not wearing masks and failing to maintain social distancing norms.

"The area police have been authorised to collect the fine. Moreover, the state government had to take such harsh decisions to increase the fine amount from Rs 200. The fine will be imposed on those not fully covering their noses and mouths with masks," he said.

Sudhakar added that the state government had again imposed a partial ban on participation of people in social, religious, political gatherings as well as weddings and other cultural ceremonies.

"No more than 50 people can attend these ceremonies. Action will be initiated against organisers or owners of the organisation if more people are found in such gatherings," the minister maintained.

He added that buses (public transport) can operate with 50% of their capacity.

"Bus conductors will be instructed to allow only those with masks into the buses," he said, adding that all government employees must wear masks and they won't be allowed to enter the office if found without masks.

Dr K. Sudhakar should first set an example by wearing his mask and not hanging it around his neck. Wonder how be became a Dr? As minister, he should be fined 10 times the amount for setting a very bad example!

😆😆😆😆😆....just having mask is OK... Anywhere no problem.....whether its in the hand, on the neck, behind the head/neck ok... If it's no fine. They don't wear masks, how students can sit with the mask for 10/12 hours?? Right starting from home till they reach back? What about teachers??

Respected sir first show one reliable scientific study that proves wearing masks prevents viral infections first.
There are more scientific studies proving any masks that are being used won''t prevent infections rather they harm the users by depleting their intake of oxygen & accumulation of bacterial & viral load on them causing more harm than benefit to the wearer.
In Europe they have exempted kids kids below 11 years, those people who are suffering from asthma, COPD from wearing masks as it would become life threatening for them.
Ministers shouldn't be marketing any products that claim protection or not, the same way penalizing people for a flu like virus itself is uncalled for, people are responsible for their health no govt., or agency should take or possible to take that place.

Last Sunday I was caught by BBMP officials at Hennur cross Bangalore. I was wearing Helmet and Mask too. As I was traveling long i.e yashavantpur to K R Puram, I couldn't breath after wearing mask continuously. I was caught and all kinds of lecture was given by them. Here I paid 100 pocket money for them and they were happy.
Regulation is to help people but not to penalize them.

First penalize the government officials and ministers double the amount because they themselves don't follow the rules set by them.
