Beltangady: Andinje panchayat awarded 'Gandhi Gram Puraskar'

Beltangady, Oct 2: Andinje gram panchayat has been selected for Gandhi Gram Puraskar award considering the development that has taken place including the drinking water and toilets facilities under the cleanliness scheme as well as the works under the employment guarantee scheme.

Andinje gram panchayat, which is marching towards progress has got 99% marks in tax collection. Road repair, pipeline installation, digging of borewells, toilets and bathroom construction for crematorium are done under the own resources grant.

The gram panchayat has given medical expenses, marriage expenses, computer training and paramedical training to the families of scheduled caste and tribes. It has provided employment to families, who had applied for employment under the Rashtriya Grameena Udyoga Khatri scheme, within 15 days of applying for the same. In total 738 men and 664 women have got employment through this scheme.

Development officer Purushotam G says that inspiration of administrative board, the cooperation of public and sense of responsibility of personnel of gram panchayat helped the gram panchayat to get the Gandhi Puraskar.

Community toilet is built under the Swacchh Bharath Mission, with the joint participation of Yuvaka Mandala. Andinje gram panchayat, which has a population of 4,773 people is completely free of open defecation.
