Moodbidri: Road development project pending since 50 years

Daijiworld Media Network - Moodbidri (MS)

Moodbidri, Oct 2: People have grown annoyed of requesting people representatives to develop the road that connects from Neralakatte to Bermarekodi via Vanabhojana at Mastikatte of Todar village of the taluk. They have been urging the development of this road for five decades.

It has become difficult even to walk on this stretch of road. During summer it is difficult due to the dust and in the monsoon, this road converts itself into a drain. Though it is mentioned in the records that the road connects to areas inhabited by scheduled caste and tribes, due to the negligence of people representatives, the road has not developed at all.

As the road is not motorable, none of the vehicles commutes on this stretch. Autorickshaw drivers also deny ferrying passengers on this road. School children have to push their cycles on this road as cycling is not possible. As the road becomes drain during the rainy season, snakes are not visible.

A few years ago, the then Mandala president, the late Raymond D'Costa had donated his land to build a road through his property. But since 50 years no asphaltization and repair of this road has been undertaken. For the same reason, the villagers had boycotted the last assembly elections. However, they had withdrawn their boycott as the people representative had assured of road repair.

Under the CM's minority development scheme of 2018-19, 371 meters of the road was concretized in the Vanabhojana area at a cost of Rs 20 lac. However, the half km stretch of road that goes from Neralakatte to Vanabhojana is completely damaged.

Sadananda Naravi, a villager says, "Our villagers have been demanding the repair of this road for many years. Only half the road is repaired. The other half is totally not motorable. We are facing so much difficulty due to this. Either the MLA of panchayat has to reserve some funds from the grant towards the repair of this road."

K P Sucharita Shetty, zilla panchayat member says, "I will discuss the issue of Mastikatte-Vanabhojana road development with the MLA."

The villagers should immediately put a board and name this road as Deshbhakt Veer Sawarkar road. The road will be ready within a week at least for his namesake and nobody will touch the board.

Some years back, the people of one village in north India, were surprised to see, that all of a sudden, one pucca road was constructed and electricity connection was given to their village. Later, they came to know that a unknown person from their village had filed his nomination for the post of president of India and since everything was in order, his nomination was accepted by concerned authority. In addition to your suggestion, hope, such a trick also may help.
