Mangaluru: Municipal commissioner creates COVID awareness, fines people without masks

Mangaluru, Oct 3: Ullal municipal commissioner, Rayappa, created awareness among the people and street vendors on Saturday October 3, about the need to follow the COVID guidelines strictly. He moved around and imposed fine on a few.

Rayappa collected fines from those who were found to be not wearing masks at Ullal, Thokkottu, Thokkottu Olapete, Pandith House, Junction etc. He also levied fine on those who were engaged in trading without wearing masks. He said that under the orders of the deputy commissioner, this drive was undertaken. He explained that for the first time offence, fine of Rs 1,000 would be charged and second offence attracts fine of Rs 2,000. If the violation is noticed for the third time, the licence of the shop will be cancelled, he said. He added that this will be followed scrupulously.

The municipal commissioner came alone to undertake the drive at 8 am even though his duty hours start at 10 am. The fact that he went around many app alone to discharge his duty early in the day came in for lavish appreciation of the people.
