Parents responsible if daughters are raped: BJP MLA

Balliya (Uttar Pradesh), Oct 4 (IANS): In a bizarre statement, Surendra Singh, BJP MLA from Balliya, has said that incidents like the alleged gang-rape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit girl in Hathras can be stopped only if parents inculcate good values in their daughters.

Talking to local reporters in Balliya, the BJP MLA said neither governance nor use of weapons can prevent such crimes.

"Incidents like these can be stopped with help of good values -'na shashan se, na talwar se'. All parents should teach their daughters good values. It is the combination of governance and good values that can make the country beautiful," he told a news agency.

Surendra Singh has been known for making controversial statements.

Singh had earlier stoked a controversy by comparing government officials with prostitutes. "Prostitutes are better than officials. They take money and dance all night. But these officers despite taking money from the public, don't do their work," he had said.

He also landed in controversy when he stated that "Muslims who have many wives and children in large numbers have an animalistic tendency."

"In the Muslim religion, you know that people keep 50 wives and give birth to 1,050 children. This is not a tradition but an animalistic tendency. In society, giving birth to only two to four children is normal," the BJP leader was quoted as having said.

He has also made objectionable remarks on Congress president Sonia Gandhi and BSP president Mayawati.

Dear MLA sirji, how about teaching your sons to respect the women of your society.?? Why teach only girls to be careful?
What would you do if you don't have a mother, a sister, a wife and a daughter to carry on with this world?
You men please understand, the woman carries the womb of this universe. So teach your sons to respect that fact. Stop teaching boys that a girl or a woman is an object. She's a priced asset of this universe.

I totally agree with this BJP MLA.
"Incidents like these can be stopped with help of good values -'na shashan se, na talwar se'"
Good values to be taught to the sons. If every mother try to teach good values to her son, rapes will come down.
Let them not look at girls with respect or with honor. No problem even if they look at females with sexual desire. But they should know to accept a 'no' as a 'no', when it comes from a female.

I don't bother about the rest of the comments from this MLA!

    Another display of male chauvinism!!!

Our country has been suffering from lack of gender-neutral parenting from long.... We blame our culture but the straight forward economics is that a boy is considered as an investment as he is seen as a future bread winner and girl is treated as a liability because of the ‘dowry’.... These kinds of thoughts have resulted in female foeticide, neglect of girl’s education, healthcare etc.... Due to this the country’s sex ratio is skewed @ 909 females per 1000 males. All the states except Kerala and Pondicherry contribute to this negative skew.

Things have been changing and girls / females have been outsmarting boys / males in all spheres of life, but the patriarchal ideology is so deeply rooted that our men are not able to accept the same. Surendra Singh, despite being a teacher (B.Ed M.Ed) pursuing such archaic thought process is shocking.

In fact, it is not the girls, but the boys who needs to be taught the culture and we are going in the wrong direction. Remembering the dialogue of Big B from the movie Pink “Aaj Tak Hum Sab Log Ek Galat Direction Mein Effort Karte Rahe Hain.... We should save our Boys, not our Girls.... Because if we save our Boys, Girls will be Safe”

I am sure his parents failed to inculcate good values in him. Hence this irresponsible.stupid, reprehensible and truculent statement by this BJP MLA. It is a matter of great shame and regret that our country is in the hands of a party which harbours nefarious thoughts. It is high time the people of this country woke up and vow never ever to vote for the BJP in the future. A party that does not have respect for women doesn't deserve to be voted again.

Teach your sons  how you respect their mother and your mother. This will help them to understand a little bit .
But if you tell them the stories of how you dealt with the girls when you were young then all these things will take place in your constituency.
