Mangalore, Apr 15: A number of people blocked National Highway 17 in Thokkottu as part of a protest organized by Rastriya Heddari Santrastara Horata Samithi on Thursday April 15.

They were protesting the alleged misappropriation in the land acquisition for the proposed National Highway 17 widening project from Nathoor-Talapady.

Addressing the protesters, Dinakar Ullal said that from Nathoor to Talpady 60 mts of land has been acquired for the widening, but in Kerala and Goa there is only 45 mts land.

“In Surathkal-Nathoor only 40 mts of land has been acquired. So there is misappropriation in the acquisition and there may be a plan by the contractors to accumulate additional land for their use”, he added.

“The state government should restrict the additional acquisition for the project and there should not be different kind of measures while widening the Nathoor-Talapady area”, he said.

NH comes under the power of central govt. & not state govt.
So pressure is needed on centre to rectify the problem.

    Dear Ismail
You sit in KSA and I am in UK enjoying the benefits of good road transport. If you really need to build good road traffic infrastructure wothout bottle necks then it has been to be a 60 metres road. I do not think that there is any ulterior motive. Sadly in India everything is planned for short term. These 40 metres /45 metres roads will be clogged up in a few years time and where do you go from there? People will start constructing on agricultural lands and after that widening will be a nightmare. I have seen these 45 metr roads . They are totally inadequate with absolutely no setbacks ,no hard shoulder. Some of thenm run dangerously close to house.I am personally against acquiring fertile lands but do any one complain when they have been converted to build houses which has been happening for past many years?
Unfortunately development does come at a price. There are no second thoughts about it.It is generally become a fashion in India to oppose each and everything for various reasons.
