Mangalore: Roshni Nilaya, Recognised as College with Potential for Excellence

Mangalore, Apr 16: School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya which pioneered social work education in Karnataka has been recognized as one of the colleges in the country as a College with Potential for Excellence (CPE).
The University Grants Commission had introduced the CPE scheme in the X Plan period and 47 colleges were identified in the first round.

The Institute of Social Service, managed by the Daughters of the Heart of Mary established roots in Mangalore in 1960.
Apart from the School of Social Work where the first MSW and BSW courses offering social work degrees started in Karnataka, the Institute has extension wings like the Family Service Agency, Aganwadhi Training Centre (Ullal), Janata Kendra (Bolar), Child line Nodal Agency and various other units rendering social welfare services in and around Mangalore.
Roshni Nilaya is celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year. The Jubilee celebrations which commenced in May, 2009 will culminate in a finale on May 31, 2010.
