Bengaluru, Oct 5: Grow nutritious food in the space available in the compound of your house and the government will pay for the same.

Government has come up with the novel Nutrition Garden campaign to encourage people to grow food that is required for their consumption.

In villages, the growing of vegetables and fruits, not only serves the needs of the household but also serves as an additional source of income. Government is going to pay Rs 2,600 to every family. Rural and Panchayat Raj department has decided to bring around 6,000 families under this scheme.

The government department gives seeds of drumstick, papaya, jackfruit, mango, chikoo, guava, lemon and seasoning leaves. Those who have land to grow these fruits and vegetables can take the seeds from the Rural and Panchayat Raj department. There are around 6,027-gram panchayats in the state. Around 10 families will be selected for this scheme in every panchayat. The campaign has already commenced and is going to conclude on November 30.

This campaign helps in inspiring the villagers to grow more nutritious fruits and vegetables and also provides additional income to the family. This experiment is already done in Jharkhand according to the information shared by L K Ateeq, chief secretary.

Over 1,980 families in the district of Bagalkot, 5,060 families in Belagavi, 1,440 families in Dharwad, 2,240 families in Haveri, 2,310 families in Uttara Kannada, 2,710 families in Shivamogga, 1,050 families in Bengaluru Rural, 1,270 in Ramanagara, 1,560 in Kolar, 960 in Bengaluru city, 3,310 in Tumkur, 2,370 in Bellary, 2,640 in Kalaburagi, 2,300 in Dakshina Kannada, 2,670 in Hassan, 1,040 in Kodagu, 2,340 in Mandya and 2,660 families in the district of Mysuru are said to benefit from this campaign.
