Mangaluru, Oct 6: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Dr K V Rajendra, has issued an order in connection with regulating COVID-19. He has said that schools and colleges, educational and training institutions etc can take a decision to open them after October 15 in phases.

"Academic activities will be permitted subject to favourable conditions after consulting the management committees of the schools and institutions. They have to continue with online, distance education. If students choose online education, the same should be permitted. Students who choose online classes should be allowed to do so. Students can attend schools only with written permission from their parents or guardians. Attendance should not be made compulsory," he said.

He said that relating to reopening of colleges and institutions of higher education, the department of higher education, in consultation with the union human resources department, will make a decision on the basis of the conditions prevailing. In the case of higher education institutions, only for the research scholars (PhD) and postgraduate students who need to participate laboratory and experimental activities needed for the science and technology studies they undertake, will be permitted from October 15 onwards with certain preconditions," he stated in his order.

The DC also mentioned that swimming pools used for sports training will be permitted to be opened from October 15 onward. Cinema halls, theatres, multiplexes etc can reopen in places other than containment zones with 50 per cent seating capacity. Entertainment parks and such other places will be permitted to open from October 15, he stated.
