Udupi: Ganja menace making its way into rural belts?

Udupi, Oct 6: After the Sandalwood drug connection in Bengaluru came into the open, the operation against drugs has been going on in the district on a large scale. During the last 29 days, 103 ganja cases have been reported.

Ganja menace, which is usually centred around towns and cities, has also extended its influence to rural areas. Ganja cases have been increasing from year to year in the district. Sale and use of ganja reached its peak during the lockdown period, which has come as a shock for even the policemen. As compared to the previous four years, the number of ganja cases registered this year is more.

The police who have registered 27 ganja cases between January 2020 and September 25 have arrested 54 people. Cases relating to ganja use have been registered against 201 persons. In eight months, 228 cases were registered and 256 were booked for this offence. In the 203 cases registered last year, 221 were arrested and 46.7 kg ganja was confiscated.

Ganja in the past used to be limited to Malpe, Manipal, and Udupi town police stations. But, now these case have also been registered in rural police stations. Over 27 cases out of 103 cases reported in the district till September, were registered within police stations in Kundapur subdivision. Eight persons were arrested and 3.5 kg ganja was impounded in these stations. Ganja cases have also been reported from Shirva, Kaup and Padubidri stations in addition to Malpe.

Kundapur assistant superintendent of police Hariram Shankar said that the operation to crush the ganja supply chain has been going on a war footing.

    So many people may know the outlets but no one comes forward to inform or pass the information about the joints to police or narcotic agencies. Let the police exerts more efforts and vigilance to unearth the culprits the big sharks.

    What is shocking in this news.. as if police dint knew at all.. when police force work under the influence of money and politicians... how can the stop of such things be expected... Police are in shock... why dint they know that this will happen one day... why dint they try to catch hold of people who are selling ganja and other drugs initially.. How much money have they eaten from these peddlers.... everything should be checked... but who will check. When all these police and politicians are one... and work just for money.. who can we rely on... we the citizens are to be blamed.... none others.... I still remember.. once 2 young police caught hold of these peddlers by risking their life and job and also found a bag of ganja and other drug items in their possession. When they were handed over to the department for further enquiry.. the senior officer let the culprit free by taking 5 lakhs from them and announcing that the items found was not original.... when we have such people in department and also when we have stupid politicians minting money from this... how can we save our youngsters from this menace

    Main culprits are the policemen they know each and every location of the business but do not take any action. Cigarettes smoking is banned but it is openly done in front of policestation. Colleges and hospitals the shop keepers openly sell with no action. My place has become smokers paradise in every alternate shops there is cigarette seller even the cops vehicle move around the area but no action. This cigarette seeler are the key points of drug sale. If tobacco products banned then we can breathe freely.

    IN UDUPI THE GANJA IS SUPPLIED ON GOODS/FISH TRUCKS...EVEN SOME OF THE POLICE PERSONNELS KNOW ABOUT IT AND NO ACTION IS TAKEN.... SOME YOUNGESTERS THESE DAYS WANT TO EARN MORE MONEY VERY FAST... AND THEY WANT TO DO IT THIS WAY..... USUALLY THEY DROP OUT FROM SCHOOLS OR COLLEGES....THERE IS NO HUMANITY THESE DAYS....
    ALSO BCOZ OF CORONA MOST OF THEM ARE UNEMPLOYED AND HAVE NO MEANS FOR MONEY...

    Police should have a audio recorded 100 number for response. In current electronic age it is imperative and please record so that police have to respond, eventually.

    Call the NCB now and let them do some work now. If they can accuse an innocent person like Rhea Chakraworthy and put her behind bars calling her a member of drug syndicate for 20 grams which was smoked by her boyfriend Sushant Singh and here in Karnataka. If for buying 20 gms Rhea is calling a member of syndicate, what do we call the guys doing commercial trade Conglomerates.

    Media should check from Police officials, how many Ganja peddlers are freed from jail. These Ganja mafia is very influencial. Within no time they are out of Jail. If Indian govt. amend the rule and give harsh punishment then only you can control this business.
