Bengaluru: 'Schools will not be reopened in October' - Minister Dr Sudhakar

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Oct 7: Given the rise in coronavirus cases, there were apprehensions among certain sections of people regarding the reopening of schools, however, the state government thought otherwise. Meanwhile, clarifying now on the matter Karnataka medical education minister Dr K Sudhakar on Wednesday said that experts have advised against reopening of schools in October. “Currently, the number of cases is high in the state but the recovery rate is also high. Considering that children are likely to get infected if schools reopen when cases are at its peak, experts have advised against the reopening schools and we will not allow schools to open at least in October,” Dr K Sudhakar said.

Stating that the standard operating procedure issued by the Union government is comprehensive, the expert said that reopening schools would inadvertently result in children turning positive for coronavirus and this is likely to create panic among parents, a report by TNM stated.

“The academic year is almost coming to an end considering the Deepavali, Dasara and Christmas holidays. Some experts say it is better to pass all students for this year. But we have to think about Class 10 students as many in government schools have not even had classes. This is something that the committee should still decide on,” said a member of the Technical Advisory Committee for COVID-19.

It is said that the Primary and Secondary Education Department was considering reopening schools only for students from Classes 9 to 12 as it would be easier to ensure they follow physical distancing. “Even private schools want this. We should see how parents take to this. The biggest concern is regarding SSLC students and we have to come up with a way to ensure they are able to perform well in board exams. But this too, we will decide once experts give us their report,” sources in the department said.

Once the govt starts classes every parent will send slowly. Since govt is not starting schools, nobody is ready to send. Many parents send children to grocery shops to buy things. Nobody things of corona in grocery shops. Then how come it will spread only in schools. Children also travel by buses, autorickshaws etc.

Regarding opening schools, it is better to start at least weekly once. As per my observation many children play together in a neighbourhood. Children cannot be locked inside the house. Online learning will make kids addicted to mobile and other bad habits. Also many children attend tuition classes. So please start classes

Please start schools as soon as possible. Since students are restless at home, some parents are already taking them to work sites. With proper precautions, better to open schools. Nobody can sit inside the house just because corona is there. Media should take responsibility in removing the fear from minds of people rather than giving corona death reports

Please let us know the names of experts who had advised against opening of schools, so that we can search in what field they have expertise and their track record etc.
Better will be consult those epidemiologists who have better knowledge about this epidemic which never qualifies to be called pandemic in first place.
Better still consult your counterparts in those countries where no lock down or stoppage of schools ever took place in Sweden etc.
If you did the above then you too would have called the hoax of pandemic as just another viral infection belonging to the family of corona which India had experienced in 1960's, 1980's & 2002 before as well without any resort to the extreme measures the govt. took this year thereby saving the nation & its progress in the past.

Why can’t govt open school collage in shift base. Let’s not make student gathering in large number. I agree corona is just a normal fever or other symptoms for youngsters. But same youngsters need to come home back. In family there will elderly people. So we need to see about them also. Gvt should take calculated risk

Dengue, malaria is more dangerous than corona. Media has not focused on that.
Media is showing corona is more dangerous and that's why parents are afraid too.
Please reopen the higher classes as everything is opened now. Or else future of students will be bad and also children will loose interest in schools and also there will be more dropouts.

is dengue contagious or airborne? NO. Is malaria contagious or airborne? NO. Is covid 19 contagious and airborne? 200% times more than normal flu or influenza , meaning more cases and more deaths . You might have not had family members contracting the virus , but tell the same to all those people who lost their loved ones when it could be prevented , by simply following the protocols. When you put other things over your health and others , you are just being selfish and you need to seriously introspect. Atleast worry about the ones who are vulnerable .

Corona is like any other normal fever.Only if there are other health problems then corona fever is dangerous. High school classes need to be opened.Health is important but student, teacher interaction is also important.
