Udupi, Oct 8: Karnataka Slum Development Board has been constructing a residential complex at Saralebettu here which will have 460 houses. MLA K Raghupathi Bhat held a meeting with the beneficiaries who have already applied for their houses and have remitted all the instalments, at Sathyamurthy Hall in the city on Wednesday October 7.

It had been decided to extend housing finance to the beneficiaries through Bank of Baroda for the balance amount after deducting the subsidy portion of the central and state governments and the municipality from the total cost of individual houses. In order to further reduce the burden of the beneficiaries, Bhat held discussions with the officials of labour department on the possibility of granting them interest-free loans of Rs two lac each from the construction workers welfare board after getting their identity cards from the labour department.

Karnataka Slum Development Board plans to build 860 houses at Saralebettu here. It was brought to the notice of the beneficiaries that of them, 460 houses are being completed in the first phase and after houses are allocated to the applicants who filed their applications first, remaining houses are planned to be distributed through draw of lots.

District labour officer Kumar, executive engineer of Karnataka Slum Development Board H Manju, municipal commissioner Anand C Kallolikar and municipal officials were present.
