Puttur, Oct 8: Iqbal Sadiq (27), who had been jailed relating to rape attempt on a girl on August 29 earlier this year at Ninnikallu in Beltangady taluk, has ended life.
Iqbal, resident of Malebettu in Koyyur village had reportedly intercepted a girl belonging to scheduled caste when she had come out to graze her goat. When he tried to rape her, the people had caught hold of him and handed over to Beltangady police. A case under sexual atrocity had been filed and he had been jailed. He had succeeded in getting released on bail. He reportedly was undergoing depression relating to the case.
On Tuesday, minor fights had erupted between Rafiq and Iqbal Sadiq and others near Mundoor. It is said that Sadiq was overwhelmed by the thought of Rafiq filing a complaint against him with the police. Too scared to face another case, he ended his life on Wednesday October 7 afternoon, it is learnt.
A case of suicide was registered in Beltangady police station.
