Chennai, Oct 8 (IANS): C.K. Rajkumar (68), the founder of Velvette International who revolutionised the concept of shampoo and cough syrup in sachets, passed away at a private hospital here.
His younger brother C.K. Kumaravel, founder and CEO of Naturals chain of salons and spa, tweeted about Rajkumar's demise.
"With immense grief & deep regret I announce the passing away of our beloved brother CK Rajkumar, the CMD of #velvette international & a dynamic entrepreneur who taught us to dream big & never to give up," Kumaravel tweeted on Wednesday night.
Rajkumar had revolutionised shampoo marketing by packaging it in a sachet and brought it to the reach of people at the bottom of the social pyramid.
Rajkumar also introduced the Nivaran 90 cough syrup in a sachet and Memory Plus capsules.
The brand ambassador for Memory Plus was former chess world champion Viswanathan Anand. Perhaps it was the first product to be endorsed by a chess player in India.
Interestingly, Rajkumar's other younger brother is C.K. Ranganathan, the founder of fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) major CavinKare.
