Mangaluru, Oct 8: All India Civil Engineers Association president Vijay Vishnu Mayya warned of halting construction work for a week as part of protest if the district administration fails to resolve the sand issue.

Addressing media here on Thursday, October 8, Vijay Vishnu Mayya said, "Sand is one of the natural sources of the coastal belt. But, for the past 11 months, we have been facing scarcity of sand, which is displays failure on the part of the district administration. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the real estate business has been hit and at the same time, we are also facing a scarcity of sand. When sand is being made available illegally during the night, why is there unavailability of the in the day? The procedure of providing licence is being done at a snail's pace brought on by the laziness of the officers and following the lack of political will power."

"If the sand scarcity continues then over 100 building construction organisation may shut down for which officials and people representatives should make way for it, said Vijay Vishnu Mayya.

CREDAI president Naveen Cardoza said, "On October 10 there will be meeting chaired by district in-charge secretary pertaining to sand and other issues, based upon the outcome of the meeting we will consider stopping all the construction work for a week as it is the only option left. We have submitted several pleas with representatives and officials but no one has paid any heed to them."

Civil Contractors Association vice president Mahabala Kottari, members Ramakrishna Rao and others were present.
