Bantwal: Fourteen Couples Tie Knot in Mass Wedding Ceremony

Bantwal, Apr 19: “We will have to lead a worthy life by following the ideals of great social reformer Basavanna”, said Swami Basavalingamurti of Muruga Rajendra Mutt, Mysore.
Swami Basavalingamurti was gracing the nuptials of 14 couples in a mass wedding ceremony held at B C Road on Sunday April 18.
The mass wedding was organized under the auspices of Navachethana Seva Trust, Dakshina Kannada district branch of Karnataka Dalit Mahasabha, as part of Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s birth anniversary.
“Many Kannadigas have left behind a legacy of their good deeds which survives long after they depart this world. Society respects those who work for social welfare”, said the Swami.
He conveyed best wishes to the newly-wedded couples to lead married life with mutual love and trust.
Swami Shashikant Mani of Sri Kala Bhairaveshwar Kshetra, Balekodi, Kanyana, also graced the occasion.
Sesappa Dasayya, president, Ramanjaneya Bhajan Mandir, inaugurated the programme.
Mamatha D Gatti, former zilla panchayat president, presided over the programme.
Dakshina Kannada district youth Congress former president Bondala Jagannath Shetty, taluk Dalit Mahasabha president B Yashodha, taluk social welfare officer A Ramachandra, taluk Ambedkar Seva Sangh president Satish Arala, Dalit community leaders Padmanabha Naringana and Sesappa Bedrakadu, taluk panchayat member Vinod Vishwanath Poojary, Kanchalakshi, Vishwanath Pakaje, M A Naik, Harish Kumar K, Madhav Kadeshwalya, and Ganesh Pakane were present on the dais.
Navachethana Seva Trust president Raja Pallamajal welcomed the gathering. Bhanuchanda Krishnapur proposed the vote of thanks. Honnappa Kundar and Jayanand Peraje compered the programme.
