Bantwal, Apr 19:
The town police arrested a bridegroom from a wedding hall at B C Road, on Sunday April 18, as he was about to get married for the second time in anticipation of getting dowry.

Suresh, son of Anand Poojary, residing at Yenmaje in Kasargod district, was arrested by the town police on Sunday.  Suresh is already married to Latha and they have a four-year-old son.

Background of case:

The nuptials of Suresh and a woman from nearby Polali were about to be held at a wedding hall in B C Road and the policemen arrested Suresh as he was walking towards the ‘pandal’.

Suresh had convinced his prospective father-in-law that he was a bachelor and accepted Rs 20,000 as dowry from them.  The police arrested Suresh on the basis of a complaint lodged by his wife Latha at the town police station.  Suresh was later handed over to Kasargod police.

Dowry returned:

Due to the presence of mind of Suresh’s lawful wife Latha, an innocent girl was saved from a tragic situation. The police recovered the Rs 20,000 Suresh took as dowry from his future father-in-law and returned the same.

The police have also recovered the expenses incurred for catering and other wedding arrangements from Suresh.

Town police handed over Suresh to the custody of Kasargod police for further investigation.
