Byndoor, Oct 9: It has been three years since Byndoor was carved out of Kundapur to be made an independent taluk. The government had, after a gap of two years, announced the creation of new taluks. It has been a year since Byndoor taluk panchayat was formed and an executive officer was appointed but no staff have been appointed there.

As a result, the office is as good as non-existent. Recently, president and vice president were elected for the taluk panchayat and a general session was held. One employee has now been appointed on a temporary basis. No services are available here and the people have to depend on Kundalpur taluk panchayat even now. The general session of Byndoor taluk panchayat also was held at Kundapur taluk panchayat office. No works are attended here, and the taluk panchayat office which is located in a part of the Byndoor town panchayat office is housed in a congested space.

People want the next general session of the taluk panchayat to be held at Byndoor. Even though the land has been allotted for the office, the government has not taken any initiative to construct a building. Byndoor MLA B M Sukumar Shetty has been urged by the people here to call for a tender and take further steps to see that the taluk panchayat gets its own building.

MLA Sukumar Shetty said that he has asked the sub-divisional officer to hold the general session of the taluk panchayat in the space reserved for town panchayat office. He said that the tender process amounting to Rs 10.5 crore for the construction of mini Vidhana Soudha has been put through and it will be built by the housing board. He also said that the projects of a 100-bed taluk hospital, taluk panchayat building and court building will be set rolling soon.
