Bengaluru, Oct 10: State rural development minister, K S Eshwarappa, has instructed officials of the department to prepare detailed project report towards supplying drinking water under Jal Jeevan Mission scheme to 13 gram panchayats falling within the city (north) constituency and some villages flailing within Moodbidri and Bantwal constituencies. Water to these villages will be supplied from dams across Gurpur and Netravati rivers. The project cost has been pegged at Rs 201 crore.

The minister passed this order at a meeting held on Friday October 9 at Bengaluru. Mangaluru North MLA Dr Bharath Shetty told the minister that supplying water on a regular basis to rural belts has been posing a problem. He said that like the previous system of multi village drinking water scheme under Jal Jeevan Mission, provisions should be made to supply drinking water from existing dams. He sought grants to pipeline, pump, water purification unit and other amenities.

The minister promised that the department will extend cooperation to ensure that there is no problem in drinking water supply. MLAs Umanath Kotian, Rajesh Naik, and senior officials of the department were present.
