Mumbai, Apr 19: ‘Bisu Parba 2010’, a traditional festival of Tulunadu, was celebrated with pomp and gaiety at Radhabai T Bhandary Auditorium of Bunts Bhavan, Kurla (East), here on Sunday April 18.
It was organized by the cultural and literary committees of Bunts Sangh, as well as women’s and youth wings of Bunts Sangh.
Aikala Harish Shetty, president, Bunts Sangh, and women’s wing president Jayanti V Ullal inaugurated the programme.
Kulal Sangh Mumbai women’s wing president Mamatha S Gujaran was the chief guest on the occasion.
Trasha Nithyanand Hegde inaugurated the art exhibition of ‘Bisu Parba’ by Chitramitra Prashant Shetty.
Soujanya Krishna Shetty inaugurated the ‘Rangoli’ display.
Dr Kanakarya Rekha Shetty, managing director, Chennai-based Firstar Distribution Network, was conferred with Radhabai T Bhandary Memorial Award in the presence of Prabhakar T Bhandary and Lalitha P Bhandary.
Speaking on the occasion, Jayanti Ullal said that ‘Bisu Parba’ is a traditional festival of Tulunadu which conveys the cultural hierarchy of the coastal district. Meanwhile, she commended the spirit of the Tulu–Kannadigas’ settled in the metro in celebrating Bisu Parba meaningfully and with unity.
Aikala Harish Shetty said that women are a blessed lot who manage many roles in their life. “‘Bisu Parba’ gives an opportunity for the women to involve themselves in festivities”, he added.
Ratnakar Shetty Mundkoor, editor, ‘Bantaravani’, journal of Bunts Sangh, welcomed the gathering. Vijay Kumar Shetty, president of cultural and literary committee, compered the programme.
Yakshagana play ‘Kamsa Vade’ was staged by the members of the women wing assisted by Kateel Sadanand Shetty.
The members of the youth wing also staged variety entertainment programmes on the occasion.
