Sullia, Oct 11: Sullia police on Sunday October 11 arrested five persons in connection with the murder of Sampath Kumar.
Sampath, a resident of Shanthinagar here, had been gunned down by a group of men on October 8 at around 7 am. A case was registered under sections 448, 324,302 and 34 of IPC.
Four out of the five accused are residents of Kallugundi Sampaje, and are aged 26, 27, 35, 35, and the other accused is a 32-year-old resident of Jalsur here. The names of the accused have not been divulged.
The police team arrested the accused from Subramanya-Bisleghat road, near Munglipade on October 11, while they were travelling by Swift car with the registration number KA-12-M-A4385. The vehicle used in the attack, a Qualis, has already been seized. The accused had used three pistols, a knife and a sword during the attack.
The victim Sampath was a prime accused in the Balachandra murder case in Madikeri. He was out on bail and was residing in a rented house in Shantinagar. It is said that Sampath was attacked to avenge Balachandra's murder.
The police operation took place under the guidance of CPI Naveen Chandra Jogi and led by PSI Harish and DCIB team.
