Hours after leaving Congress, Khushboo joins BJP, praises PM Modi

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 12: Ahead of Tamil Nadu polls, actress-turned-politician Khushboo Sundar on Monday October 12 joined the BJP, hours after quitting the Congress and being removed as its spokesperson.

Congress spokesperson until Monday morning, Khushboo, by afternoon changed sides and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in New Delhi and even suggested if the nation has to "move forward" it needs the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Khushboo's move is being seen as BJP's attempt at ramping up its organisation in Tamil Nadu where it has a very weak presence.

Once a successful southern movie star who featured in more than 200 movies Khushboo joined the saffron party in the presence of BJP National General Secretary C T Ravi. Along with her, Madan Ravichandran and Saravanan Kumaran from Tamil Nadu also joined the BJP at the party headquarters here.

Later she met BJP President J P Nadda.

The actor-turned-politician resigned from the Congress after six years, only after shooting a scathing letter to Sonia Gandhi.

Soon after her joining the BJP, Khushboo said, she has "come to an understanding" that if the nation has to "move forward" it needs leadership of PM Modi.

"I am whole-heartedly in the service of the Bharatiya Janata Party and I promise to do my best in whatever responsibilities given to me. I will make sure that my state sees a BJP government," she said.

Former cop K Annamalai who recently joined the BJP took to Twitter to welcome Khushboo and others into the party.

Earlier in the day, in her resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi, she alleged that individuals like her were being "suppressed" by "few elements seated at higher levels within the party".

She said that she had decided to end association with Congress with whom she had been for six long years. Justifying her decision, the actress turned politician stated that it was a thought out process and claimed that she was being suppressed and pushed by some elements who are at a higher level within the party.

Amid the speculations that the actress was to join the BJP, Congress also removed her as party spokesperson on Monday. "Smt. Khushboo Sundar is hereby dropped as AICC Spokesperson with immediate effect," said a statement from Pranav Jha, party secretary in-charge of Communications.

The BJP is likely to rope her for the 2021 assembly elections to break new ground in Tamil Nadu, a state that has been elusive for the party. "Khushboo will change the perception of the BJP in Tamil Nadu," said sources in the BJP's Tamil Nadu unit.

Not new to switching parties, Khushboo was part of DMK in 2010, before joining Congress. Back when the DMK was in power, the popular star said, "I think I made the right decision. I love to serve people. I want to work for the betterment of women."

However, she soon joined Congress, four years later, stating that her 'hard work in DMK has been a one-way path.' When Khushboo had joined Congress in 2014 following a meeting with Sonia Gandhi, she said, "I finally feel I am home. Congress is the only party that could do good for the people of India and unite the country."

But Khushboo was neither given a ticket for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls which the DMK-Congress alliance swept in the state nor chosen for the upper house.

This also comes at a time the ruling AIADMK is considering discontinuing its alliance with the BJP following its collapse in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and speculation that the national party could tacitly back superstar Rajinikanth who is likely to launch his party ahead of the polls.

First of all our people should stop to love these film actors. Be it Kushboo, Smriti Irani, Jaya Bachchan, Ramya s contributions to the common people. They just use the play cards of actors and contest the election and people without thinking twice will make them win. This tendency should stop immediately. We have witnessed and witnessing the pandemic era and none of these politicians or actors came to our rescue . Then why do we elect them . Ultimately we should use our power wisely.

TN politics is at turning point... DMK and ADMK were dominating the scene... however ADMK is reduced to small force after death of J Lalithaaa.... there is strong feelings for and against DMK... it has to be seen whether so called Hindutva can make a dent on Dravidian psyche... on the one hand, BJP is recruiting in TN to stregnthen itself and on the other hand it is strengethening local anti DMK sentiments by releasing Sasikala... if Sasikala is out and regains ADMK leadership, votes will be split between Stalin and Sasikala, with BJP being the gainer...

like British rule, BJP also believes and practises in "Divide and rule" policy...

To leave a party is the personal right of an individual. But to speak ill of a party or its leadership that they have been with evokes cheap thrills. BJP knows how to silence this "BIG MOUTH" and it will happen post-Tamilnadu elections.

For Khushboo, it is just like taking another role in another movie..... Just watch the following video, where she has been criticising about BJP and Modi, reiterating many a times that it is not her political view, but a strong personal view..... If one can change their personal views so quickly it could be either pragmatism or opportunism..... But in Khushboo's case, it is sheer opportunism eyeing important position in BJP TN, where there is a leadership vacuum.... changing colours so often, even chameleons will be put to shame.

Kushboo may have resigned from the Congress to prove she is another political opportunist or may be the BJP has used the Enforement Directorate to help her take this decision and join the BJP. In any case we have seen how the BJP tries to first rope in film stars, then cricketers and use local religous figure heads to gain a foot hold locally or in a state.

Unfortunately for the BJP, the Tide is turning very strongly against them for all their acts of Commisison and Ommision in their six years of disasterous rule. Instead of addressing the issues of the common man they feel comforted with such poaching of people from other parties after the shameful Resort politics..

This is BJP the party of total indifference to Ethics, Principles and Integrity and Probity in public life. Time to consign them to the archives of History.

Precious ornaments, have to be exposed to fire, only then can they sparkle, glow, radiate... be precious in the sight of humans !!! Both of them must start right from the rock bottom, by contesting local Municipal or Zilla Parishad elections, possibly even on a BJP ticket !!

She is a unfit, selfish and opportunist politician. Till yesterday she was praising Congress and blaming bjp for misruling and corruption. Hoqwever, when she saw no chance of getting a seat or higher power, she ruined congress and now licking chappals of bjp leaders. Shame on such politicians. Most of the politicians are of this nature. For them, power is most important so that they can make money within a short time. No politicians is caring public interest. Everyone is selfish. Politicins are making money and this is the reason why people are joning politics leaving their posts or buisness. I am sure that this opportunist will jump to another party if she finds no chance of getting power. I hope Yogi will offer her to be his personal secretary and there will competition in bjp leaders for this.
