Bengaluru riots: Former Congress mayor Sampath Raj named accused

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SD)

Bengaluru, Oct 13:
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) probing the violence that erupted in Bengaluru's DJ Halli and KJ Halli over an inflammatory social media post had named former mayor and sitting Congress corporator R Sampath Raj as one of the accused, the police said on Tuesday.

"He has been named as one of the accused in the DJ Halli and KJ Halli violence," a top investigating police officer said stating that he was one among those who had the information about the violence and refrained from sharing it to the police.

Congress corporator of Pulakeshinagar, Abdul Rakeeb Zakir was also named as accused.

CCB sources said that both Congress leaders have been named in the 850-page preliminary charge sheet filed on Monday, but did not divulge further details.

Raj and Zakir had been questioned earlier, but were not arrested so far. However, the CCB arrested Raj's personal assistant Arun Kumar on August 19 for allegedly remaining in touch with alleged conspirators of the riots.

Sampath Raj along with Abdul Rakeeb Zakir, Pulakeshinagar Congress corporator were questioned for several hours earlier.

It may be recalled that the violence began after religious sentiments were offended following an objectionable post on Facebook, by P Naveen. He is the nephew of Congress MLA from Pulakeshinagar, Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy. Murthy, a Dalit leader, had defected from the JD(S) to Congress before the last poll and won it too at the chagrin of the Congress bigwigs who had been eying the seat. In the incident the legislator's house was torched by rioters and in a bid to quell the rioters, the police opened fire in which three people lost their lives and another died in the hospital.

The CCB investigation the devastating riots in the IT capital, Bangaluru has once again " Let the cat out of the bag " This pogrom, was well orchestrated, by none other, then the Netas from the INC !!!! Tall claims of providing secular governance, under Congress regime (UPA) has been shattered, under numerous counts !!! The nation can never ever forget the Sikh riots in Delhi in 1984... and the countless communal riots, unleased, which sparked hatred, bloodshed, in many states of our nation !!!!

Do you condemn Mangalore Church attacks which were communal in nature on innocent, defenceless, weak, in cold blood on priests, nuns and faithfuls. If you are a true Catholic as you pretend to be then you would have definitely condemned long time ago. No Christian will accept BJP's communal ideology and justify thier divisive tactics as you do in disguise who stand out as fake pseudos.

What a charge to name and arrest former congress mayor because he had the information but did not share. First off how did they know he had the information??????...Second off, is the ruling BJP govt in slumber when it comes security issues of the state or did BJP pretend to be sleeping and let unfold its plan?????????....Arresting and releasing whoever is opposed to them for media attention. Just by turning the focus on opposition BJP can not get away with this well planned riot. Finally it will BJP who is master mind behind this crime as usual in this criminal dramatisation.

You seem to have more information than the CCB! Well, can understand your level of frustration. The DJ Halli and KJ Halli incident just shows that level of respect and unity among the Congress workers. The entire incident is just a tight slap on the face of congress by their own people.

State security and intelligence is the top most priority of the state govt. Making others scape goats and blaming them without any valid evidence naming and accusing them by trial and error is the strongest form incompetence of the state govt. Yeddy's chaddi police should have had prior knowledge of intelligence report of this incident than play blame game now after the crime is over. It's no rocket science to understand the pathetic situation of security, law and order of the state for people have eyes and brains but not for blinds and brainless.

In some scenarios, it’s hard to predict the outcome of internal party politics. That’s said, the Government and the Police department did a good job in ensuring the incident do not spread beyond KG and DG halli. Can understand the limitation in mindset of some people to review the incident in broader aspect but yes, if anyone has issues with the findings of CCB, then they can approach the legal system than crying out of frustration!

The main purpose of creation of this incident was to 'Accuse and Let Go' for media attention than any actual terror activities and if there a was any imminent terror activity then police should have had prior intelligence report but in this case it was a fabricated drama. Even congress MLA's house was destroyed and property damaged and life threats were uttered to him and his family and his nephew. No one was aware in congress till the nephew received a initial hate message from his lost phone by fake person to trigger the fight between the comman enemies of this fake person.
