Mangalore, Apr 25: This coastal city known for its nature’s bounty has many tourist attractions that remain untapped as yet. After much dithering the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) at Bajpe Airport, housing both international and domestic flights all set for inauguration on May 15, 2010, the places in the close proximity of the new terminal have all the potential to emerge as tourist spots in the days to come.
Kenjar, a hilly terrain with lush green vegetation situated just six kilometers from Bajpe is one such destination which has all the potentials of emerging as a place of tourist attraction. The peaceful and serene environs, the luxuriance of the lush greenery which e is both captivating to the eyes and relaxing to the mind the soulful sound of the Gurupur River flowing in her magnificence and grace has added that irresistible charm to this place. The very milieu is so pristine and inviting making this place an emerging hot spot for tourists. The Gurupur River offers another charm in the form of an island which is going to be an added attraction to the tourists. Being away from the hustle and bustle of the city and all the ills that are common in a city life this island will act as a cool balm rejuvenating the stressed body and minds of those who come in search of it.
The railway department has realized the tourist potential of this area and is contemplating setting up a railwtay station near Kenjar as a railway line passed through this area and is all set for the new limelight. Most of the surrounding villages around this area too have similar potential of emerging as future tourist spots with their bucolic beauty. The only lacuna is that the area lacks basic infrastructure facilities which are essential to facilitate tourism. If steps are taken to provide some facilities to these villages they are sure to attract tourists in hordes which will give a big boost to the tourism sector in the district.
