Women help desks to be set up at all J'khand police stations


Ranchi, Oct 27 (IANS): To enhance the safety and security of women in the state, Jharkhand will soon set up women help desks at all the 300 police stations across the state.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, M.V. Rao, Jharkhand Director General of Police (DGP) said: "The women help desk will be set up in all 300 police stations from Nirbhaya fund. Action will be taken against those police officials who will try to suppress crime against women and girls. Even an FIR would be registered against such officials."

He added that if the body of a woman or a girl is found then the Superintendent of Police (SP) of the district will himself visit the spot. The official will also monitor the investigation along with arresting the accused.

"Any lapses will invite action".

Jharkhand police have recently launched a Whatsapp number in all the 24 districts for women to lodge a complaint regarding eve teasing or any other crime.

The state police headquarters on Tuesday released the data on complaints. In a short period of time 108 complaints have been lodged by women through Whatsapp.

The highest number of 28 complaints have been lodged in Ranchi followed by Giridih with 18. However, no complaint has been lodged in two districts - Sahebganj and Jamatara.

The Jharkhand DGP also announced a special drive against drugs from November 1.
