Mangalore: GP Elections – 11,583 Nominations Filed in District

Mangalore, Apr 29: Wednesday April 28 was the last day for the filing of nominations for the gram panchayat (GP) elections. Till now, a total of 11,583 nomination papers have been filed. Additional deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, Prabhakar Sharma, informed that 7,535 men and 4,048 women candidates have filed their nominations in the district.

Scrutiny of nominations is being conducted today. Monday May 3 will be the last day for the withdrawal of nomination papers.

The taluk-wise figures of nominations received are as follows: Mangalore – 49 GPs (men – 2,180, women – 1182), Bantwal taluk – 46 GPs (men – 1,784, women – 1,029), Beltangady – 41 GPs (men – 1,419, women – 759), Puttur – 37 GPs (men – 1,314, women – 639), Sullia  - 27 GPs (men – 838, women – 439).

Out of the above, 839  belong to scheduled castes, 591 to scheduled tribes, 2,799 to backward class A, 756 to backward caste B and 6,602 to general category.
