Mangalore, May 1: The MCC has been accused of demolishing a portion of a house in Adimar near Gorigudda in the city on charges of illegal construction without verifying the concerned documents related to the house, on Saturday May 1.
According to the owners of the house, it was constructed 25 years ago and the MCC had not considered its own Akrama-Sakarma rule as per which the house owners obtained legalization by paying the penalty. The owner of the house is Roopa Pereira.
The house owner’s son Santhosh Pereira said that there is a court case pending but the city corporation has demolished a portion of the house.
“We have paid penalty to the MCC also as per the Akrama-Sakrama rule”, he added.
He said that the corporation had served a notice to vacate a portion of the house, but before replying to the notice they arrived with the bulldozer.
“They did not allow us to say anything, even though we tried to inform them about the court case and penalty paid as per the Akrama-Sakrama rule”, added Santosh.
The police forcibly lifted the woman from the house, before starting the demolition.
An MCC officer said that it was an illegal construction, so the corporation has decided to demolish the illegal portion. He added that a drainage line passes under the illegal construction.
The house owners said that they would go to court against the MCC’s act against human rights violations also.
