Doha: Padil's Comedy Play is Highlight of Tulu Koota Anniversary Celebration

Doha, May 1: Tulu Koota, Qatar, celebrated its 11th anniversary on Friday April 30 at Doha Cinema Hall.
The anniversary celebration started with comperes Prarthana Shetty and Kadri Navneeth Shetty of ‘Namma Kudla’ fame welcoming the guests.
As part of the Indian tradition, a lamp was lit by Tulukoota president Ravi Shetty, vice-president Abdulla Monu, general secretary Dineshchandra Shetty, treasurer Prakash Rao, cultural secretary Sudha Manjunath, sports secretary Mohan Jeppinamogaru, joint secretary Vivian D’Souza and women’s co-ordinator Veena Rao.
A skit was performed by the ATS team amply depicting the traditions of Tulunadu.
Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa , Indian Ambassador to State of Qatar, M K Sitharam Kulal, former chairman of Karnataka Tulu Sahithya Academy, Chidananda, general manager, M Pallonji, Qatar, event sponsor, Kishore D Shetty, convener of Lakumi Drama Troupe, and Jyothi Ravi Shetty were escorted to the dais by the ATS skit team.
A souvenir, ‘Nirel’, was released on the occasion by Wadhwa.
Prakash Chandra Ajila, former president and editor and other members of the souvenir committee were present on the dais for the release of the souvenir.
In her brief speech, Wadhwa commended the achievement of Tulu Koota, Qatar, and wished the good luck in all future events. The ATS skit got special appreciation from her.
The association’s president briefed the audience about its achievements in the last two years and appreciated the contributions of individual team members for their efforts.
The DVD of the recently held ‘Vishwa Tulu Sammelana’, brought out by ‘Namma Kudla’ channel, was released by Chidananda, event sponsor. Srikanth Rao of Namma Kudla TV was present on the dais.
Tulu Koota felicitated former chairman of Tulu Sahithya Academy M K Sitharam Kulal .
Former presidents Divakar Poojary and Prakashchandra Ajila did the felicitation on behalf of Tulu Koota. Tulu Koota also felicitated Kishore D Shetty.
The organization also honoured Abdul Salaam, Neri Pinto, and H L Narayan Rao for their selfless service to society. As part of its tradition, it also honoured outstanding students Jevika Shetty, Aishwarya Shetty, and Sameerana N Rao.
In his address, Kulal briefed about the existence of ‘Tulu Lipi’ and the steps undertaken by his team during his tenure in introducing Tulu as third language in Karnataka state syllabus from class six onwards.
He also thanked the Tulu Koota for felicitating him and giving him an opportunity to meet the Tuluvites residing in Qatar. On behalf of Tulu Koota, Kadri Navneeth Shetty was felicitated by Chidananda.
Abdulla Monu proposed the vote of thanks.
The main attraction of the day was ‘Anchilatt Inchilatt’, the Tulu comedy play directed by Kusaldarase Navin D Padil, which received a standing ovation from the crowd.
Through the drama social messages of bad effects of alcohol and foeticide were put across. It was an excellent effort by Lakumi Troupe.
Chidananda honoured Navin Padil for his contribution to the field of Tulu drama.
