Mangalore : Archbishop of Bhopal Ordains Three SVD Deacons as Priests at Niddodi

Mangalore, May 3: Archbishop of Bhopal Leo Cornelio today ordained three SVD priests in a grand ordination programme held at Noddodi parish. A large number of SVD priests who had arrived from different places to be part of this grand celebration participated in the ordination mass held at Niddodi parish. Fr Naveen Rebello of Niddodi parish, Fr AV un D’ Mello of Pernal parish and Fr Cyril D Souza of Kelmbet parish were the three priests who got ordained today.
Fr Naveen Rebello and Fr Cyril D Souza belong to the Bombay province of SVD while Fr Arun D Mello has opted to serve in the foreign mission and has chosen Bostwana in Africa to render his services. Naveen, a rank holder throughout his academic career, has worked in Andheri Parish Mumbai, for a year and has been appointed to serve in the same parish. Cyril D Souza is a singer and musician and has made a mark by bringing out his own album of devotional songs and will serve at the Divine Call Centre of SVD in Mulki.
SVD’s (Society of Divine Word) are missionaries working in frontier mission. There are about 6000 SVD priests who have been working in as many as 65 countries the world over including difficult countries like China. SVD was founded by St Arnold Jenssen in 1875. He has also founded two more spiritual societies for nuns namely Perpetual Adoration and Sisters of the Holy Spirit (missionaries). SVD has five provinces in India including Mumbai province and Hyderabad Province in the south.
