Haryana to install CCTV cameras in all cities: Minister


Chandigarh, Nov 6 (IANS) Haryana Urban Local Bodies Minister Anil Vij on Friday informed the Assembly that the state government was planning to install CCTV cameras in all cities.

Appropriate guidelines in this regard were being issued.

Replying to a question on the second day of the monsoon session, he said earlier CCTV cameras were installed in Smart Cities by the Urban Local Bodies Department but the maintenance of which was being taken care of by the Home Department.

"The CCTV cameras play an important role in preventing crime and the government is serious in this direction," he said.

Vij said about 1,500 cameras would be installed for surveillance and traffic management in Faridabad district. He said 700 cameras had already been installed under the Smart City Mission.

Apart from this, under the Smart City Mission the process of installing 760 CCTV cameras in Karnal at a cost of Rs 159 crore was underway.

The Minister said to maintain law and order and for smooth management of traffic in Gurugram, it was planned to install CCTV cameras along with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority.

The government has sanctioned Rs 45.55 crore under the Haryana Police modernization plan for installing CCTV cameras in Gurugram and Faridabad.

Vij said 120 CCTV cameras would be installed on national highway 1 in districts along it by the Haryana State Electronics Development Corp Ltd for highway safety.
