Kadaba, Nov 6: Kadaba happens to be the headquarters of a taluk now. It has a community health centre but the people here undergo hardships because of a lack of suitable facilities and specialist doctors. There has particularly been a crying need for a dialysis centre to serve people suffering from kidney-related ailments.
As Kadaba does not have a dialysis centre, people are compelled to go far off places like Puttur, Beltangady or Mangaluru for this facility. The long travel and financial burden involved puts pressure on the people who have already been frustrated by their debilitating diseases. Every patient needs about four hours to undergo dialysis. People Going to Puttur, Belthangady, Mangaluru etc have to make two to three trips every week for dialysis and sometimes have to wait till late night for their turn.
The community health centre at Kadaba has a well-equipped building constructed by using a grant of five crore rupees. But the appointment of specialist doctors has not been made. Because of staff shortage and non-availability of medical equipment, the hospital has not been able to serve people with complications. Therefore, it is limited to treating people with headache, fever, providing first aid to accident victims etc.
People of eight villages depend on this hospital for their healthcare. People from many other villages located around also come to this hospital. MLA Angara admits that the community hospital here is yet to be upgraded into taluk hospital. He said that he has already taken up with the minister concerned to open a dialysis centre at Kadaba. He said that talks are also on with Kukke Lord Subrhamaya temple for providing dialysis machine to the hospital.
District health officer, Dr Ramachandra Bairy, says that the demand for dialysis centres even in community hospitals was placed before the government. There was a proposal to open centres where it is most needed. However, because of the Covid pandemic, these plans are now pending, he stated.
