Bengaluru: U-Turn - CM Yediyurappa allows sale, use of green firecrackers

Bengaluru, Nov 6 (IANS): Hours after announcing a decision to ban sale and use of firecrackers during Diwali, Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa appears to have taken a U-Turn.

A single page letter addressing the people of the state was released by the Chief Minister's Office on Friday, indicating that people are allowed to sell and use green firecrackers during Diwali.

He maintained that Karnataka had taken all steps to contain the Covid-19 pandemic. "We have taken steps to ban firecrackers during this Deepavali but people can use green firecrackers, if they want to," he said.

Yediyurppa further said that the state government had taken every possible step to organise several major festivals in a most subdued manner and even now it is appealing again to its people to opt for simple celebrations instead of grand celebrations.

"We are taking such steps only in the interest of the people's health," he signed off.

Earlier, Yediyurappa had formally stated that the state government is banning the sale and use of firecrackers during Diwali.

He added that the government had discussed this (firecracker ban) with health experts and had arrived at a conclusion that it would not be a good thing to burst crackers this time.

"Several states, including Rajasthan, Odisha and Delhi, have already decided to ban firecrackers," he had said.

Any religion festivities must be celebrated in temple, churches or mosques or at home without disturbing other people. Some people will argue that morning muslims prayers on loud speakers disturbances to other people but same people will argue that firecrackers during festivities is correct. Ban all the activities which disturbs other people.

You are correct...... our uneducated ministers want only kannada but they want to give education to their children in english or in foreign countries. They are telling make in india and Indian goods but they want for their foreign cars. Indian medical treatment is world class but they want to go to foreign countries for medical treatment. They know how to fool people because most of Indians are fools as they elect them on the basis of religion or false propaganda.

traditionally firecrackers are considered as good for the environment... after the wet and rainwater of rainy season, firecrackers are burst during Diwali which signifies end of rainy season... supposed to kill all pests, flies, insects, germs which thrived because of wetness and water collection due to rains...

method of preparing fire crackers changed drastically from good old days... so there may be more harm than by firecrackers of today...
