'Karnataka BJP will soon enact law to prohibit religious conversions'

Chikkamagaluru, Nov 7 (IANS): Karnataka will soon enact a law prohibiting religious conversions, state's Health and Family Welfare Minister, K. Sudhakar said here on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters, Sudhakar said: "We will implement this law in next legislature session itself. We are already in talks with various experts on this issue, once we finalise modalities, we will share it with the people."

In response to a question, Sudhakar said that why should the ruling BJP listen to Congress leaders on this matter? "We know what is good for the people and people have all the rights to judge us not the opposition."

Answering a question, the Minister said that the government treasury per se is not a "Akshaya Patre" (inexhaustible vessel), which often denotes that resources are exhausted.

Sudhakar said that the hike in power tariff was not done to burden the people but due to financial constraints. "With Covid-19 dealing a deadly blow on collection of sources and the economy, there is a financial crunch. We have to come with such measures to tackle the pandemic," he said.

He claimed that there are already enough challenges which the government had to tackle.

"Not only tackling Covid-19, but also the state had been reeling under severe floods on one hand on the other hand some districts have faced drought. As a result of this, the state was left with no choice but to increase power tariff," he said.

    Dear hon'ble minister welfare

We the citizens expect welfare of all religions as we are a secular
Country and we love peace and unity. Ultimately whatever caste or creed you divide we all worship one supreme power who is the creator
Of all mankind in whom we find solace. Your caste doesn't matter but your heart which worships and be kind to others is a great noteworthy religion

Chewing this gum is only way to hang on to power and amass wealth. Religion has done more harm than good when mixed with politics! Focus on pandemic, development, roads and bridges!

For nothing these people are bringing religion, conversion and religious faith in main stream.
Let people chose their faith because there is only one God (without shape & any identification)
We people of all religious faiths wish to have salvation and no particular religion can claim supremacy that their religion is the ultimatum. All these type of worldly reactions nothing but political gimmicks.

People convert for love, care, humanity and support. If these are available in their own religion no one will convert.

It's a Mungerilaal ke Haseen Sapne like statement!!

Conversion from one religion to other is individual choice and it's allowed in our Constitution for all Indian Citizens.

Who is BJP to enact new law to prohibit conversion??? Should we have to follow BJP Diktat???

Concentrate on peoples problems economic and social issues which affect their daily life which are very badly required now!!!

Adopt changes for the fast changing world and presently many of middle east countries relaxed and made changes to many rules & regulations for better life. ONE NATION ONE CONSTITUTION.

Many conversions happen because of economic difficulties, missionaries give education , opportunities and jobs to the economically backward and so people automatically convert with the hope of a better life . No harm in doing that . Other communities should also do that and uplift their poor brethren so that society in general can eradicate poverty and improve the socioeconomic status of our people.

Religion is personal matter of every individual, Sad that our current politicians use religion to their personal gain and divided the country.

We need alternative government who speaks about development, education reforms, gender equality, industrialization, employment, remove discrimination etc.

How valid is his statement when he speaks for all ministries except for his own???????........As long as democracy exists in this country religious conversion will exist. It's two faces of the same coin. It can not be separated. Besides its a private and personal matter and fundamental right.

These people have no respect to our constitution. Every leader and minister is talking about going against the constitution. The people who were against independence and against constitution are combined now to kill the common man and their fundamental rights. There is no doubt that this government is not for the common people, they are only for greedy and self centered people.

    Sir,

How about those who wish to convert/ed to Buddhism ? How are they affected by this ? Is the proposed law prevents such conversion too ? By which power ? Does Karnataka government has power over constitutional freedom ?

What about men marry girls outside their religion ? Will the girls be permitted to follow their own religion ? What about such couples' children ? Which religion they will follow ? Do you have time to study this case-by-case basis ?
