Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (VA)
Mangalore, May 6: Music is rightly said to be the tonic that can relax the mind and soothe the soul. The young, talented Konkani singers have given a whole new dimension and spice to the world of Konkani music making it even more appealing to both young and the old.
Mario Monteiro, a final year engineering student, Nitte along with a bunch of friends in the city will come up with a Konkani music album titled 'Sarg Sonsar'. The title is apt as the album contains a combination of hymns as well as songs oriented on family relationships and other such tender topics.
Release on May 12
The album presented by ‘Dei Gratia’ is all set to release at Valencia Parish on Wednesday May 12. Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, parish priest of Valencia Parish, Walter Nandalike, editor- in- chief, Daijiworld.com and Fr Maxim Rosario will be the guests of honour.
Mario is overwhelmingly interested in music and has been playing the keyboard in church choirs since the age of ten. “The inspiration behind the endeavour has been professor Lena Fernandes, the former principal of St Aloysius Evening College, an ever dynamic personality”, says Mario.
Mario and Dr Lena
‘Sarg Sonsar’, a collection of both hymns and society-oriented songs, is the debut venture of ‘Dei Gratia’. The music has been provided by Mario Monteiro with the lyrics being drafted with a blend of youth and experience through Mario and Professor Fernandes.
The vocalists are Flavia Sequeira, Jean Braggs, Alreen Lobo, Vinola Sequeira, Mario D'Cunha, Muriel Mascarenhas, Evangeline Lobo, Valen Sequeira and Glen Mathias. Ryner Menezes and Lovejoy Pinto are on the guitar with Mario Monteiro manning the keyboards. The album’s composition is Mario’s very own and tunes have been attuned to lyrics keeping in mind the interests of all the potential audience.
This is incidentally the platinum jubilee year of Valencia parish and in the fitness of things it is apt that such an album by the talented and enthusiastic youngsters of the parish will be launched on the day.
