Bhopal, Nov 10 (IANS): Sweets are being distributed as celebratory slogans fill up the air here in the Madhya Pradesh capital at the BJP state office after the saffron party took a decisive lead of 19 seats out of the 28.
State Home Minister Narottam Mishra reached the party office and got into celebration mode with party cadres.
"People trust BJP. There's nothing left of the Congress. Whenever they come to power, they indulge in corruption. Two years ago they came to power by lying. However, they did not have a majority. They had just 5 more seats. In 15 months, they turned it into a huddle of dalals and today's election trend in favour of BJP is a result of that," Mishra told reporters.
The BJP is leading in 19 seats while the Congress is ahead in 8, according to the trends released by the Election Commission. The Bahujan Samaj Party is leading in one.
The turncoats who switched sides and brought down the Kamal Nath government earlier are in fray as BJP candidates in 25 seats. In the remaining three segments, bypolls were necessitated due to the demise of the sitting legislators.
At present, in the 201-seat Assembly, the BJP has 107 seats, Congress 87, Independents four, two BSP, and one Samajwadi Party. So, while the BJP needs to win only eight more seats, the Congress will still be short by one MLA in case it wins all 28 seats for which bypolls were held.
