Mangaluru: Garbage dumped by roadside spreads terrible stench

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 10: After the administration went out of the hands of the people's representatives and government officials took over, waste disposal has been lethargic, particularly in several areas in Muloor and Addoor villages within Gurpur gram panchayat. The heaps of waste deposited on the roadsides are stinking.

On most days, huge heaps of garbage can be seen at Alaigudde, Gurpur. People walking by the side of national highway 169 have to pinch their noses to avoid getting nauseous. A week back, Gurpur panchayat had installed CCTV cameras here for taking action against those who violate the law. But during the week thereafter, the Gurpur panchayat staff seem to have not checked the CCTV footage. Because of their negligence, people are dumping waste there and the heap is just swelling with each passing day.
