Bangalore, May 7: Fresh faces are expected to come to fore in the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce(KFCC), when it goes to polls on Saturday, May 8, following the enactment of a long pending bylaw that prohibits any office-bearer to contest the elections for successive terms.

In view of the adoption of the new bylaws, many seasoned producers, distributors and exhibitors who had been contesting the elections on a regular basis occupying coveted posts are now forced stay off from the professional body for a minimum of one year.

The enactment of the bylaws had been the bone of contention in the previous years. In 2004 the KFCC was forced defer the elections for having ignored the amendments it had brought to its bylaws.

Although the KFCC elections has been a low key affair from the public point of view, the mechanism and cultural and political clout of the elected professional body plays a vital role in shaping the Government‘s cinema policy and the related financial issues, including the revenue in terms of entertainment and commercial taxes.

While the noted producer, distributor and actor Basanthkumar Patil, producer and politician (BJP) Vijayakumar and distributor Jankiram are contesting for the post of the president, many familiar names in the production, exhibition and distribution areas such as B N Gangadhar,

A Ganesh, Bha. Ma. Harish, K Manju, G K Kutti, Hanumanthaiah and Shankkaraiah are in fray for the vice president and general secretary posts from the respective sectors.

However, over 100 persons are in the fray for 52 member executive committee of the KFCC, including the prestigious post of the president, a treasurer and six vice presidents representing production, distribution and exhibition sectors.
