Halappa Sex Scam : Chandravati Medical Test a Futile Exercise ?
Bangalore, May 8 (DC) : The two-hour medical examination conducted on Chandravati who was allegedly sexually assaulted by former minister Haratalu Halappa, six months ago, is unlikely to yield any clinching evidence, assert authorities at the McGann government hospital, Shimoga. The medical examination was conducted following a directive from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is trying to gather evidence on the incident.
Though the hospital went through with the exercise, the authorities admit that the medical examination was a mere “formality”. “We had told the CID officials that nothing can be determined from these tests as the incident occurred nearly six months ago. However, the officials wanted a few samples,” said hospital superintendent, Mr Mahendrappa.
While no DNA samples were collected, hospital gynaecologists Dr Hema Mohan and Dr Ambika, along with forensic expert from Shimoga Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) Dr Veeresh, examined Chandravati and collected samples including vaginal and urethral smear, blood and pubic hair.
The CID had asked the hospital to ascertain two aspects: Is there any evidence of sexual intercourse after the day of the incident and whether there are any injuries which can be traced to the day of the alleged assault.
“There were no injuries that could be detected by the naked eye, although Ms Chandravati did claim that she was injured when she was assaulted. Moreover, since she is married with a child, it will be difficult to determine anything at all for she might have been sexually active after the incident,” said Dr Veeresh.
The samples, which were submitted to the CID on Friday, have reportedly been taken to the FSL, Hyderabad, for lab testing.
