1 held for selling firecrackers in Gurugram


Gurugram (Haryana), Nov 12 (IANS): A person Satyavir alias Billu, a Valmiki colony resident of Farrukhnagar area in Gurugram, was arrested for allegedly selling firecrackers at his shop, violating the latest National Green Tribunal's ban on sale of firecrackers in Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR), said the police on Thursday.

The shop in Farukkhnagar, nearly 20 km away from Gurugram city, was sealed on Wednesday following a tip-off that crackers were being stored there for sale, said Gurugram police spokesperson Subhash Boken.

The police have recovered 15 firecracker boxes from the shop, including 50 packets of firecrackers which comprised bombs, rockets, 'anar' and 'phuljhari', from the spot. A case was registered against the accused at Farrukhnagar police station and he will be produced in court on Thursday, the police added.

According to the police routine checks are being conducted for enforcing the National Green Tribunal's order on November 9 which prohibits the sale of fireworks and crackers in Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) till December 1 to curb air pollution caused by bursting of firecrackers.
