Bengaluru, Nov 14: The central government had released Rs 557 crore as compensation for the crop and property loss that occurred in 13 districts of the state. The Opposition accused that the central government has given a meagre amount against the actual loss which is quite huge. Chief minister (CM) B S Yediyurappa responded to this allegation and said that he will try for more relief from the union government.

Yediyurappa garlanded the statue of Jawaharlal Nehru on his 131st birthday. Speaking to the scribes, the CM said, "Accusation are heard that the NDRF relief provided by the Centre is less. However, we feel that it was the first instalment. I will try for more relief funds. I am confident of getting more relief funds.

"UPSC and KPSC exams dates are clashing. So students are requesting to postpone KPSC exams. I will take decision after discussing the same with concerned officials."

BJP won the Shira bye elections for the first time in history. Immediately after the elections, former CM Kumaraswamy had met Yediyurappa. This meeting led to spreading of rumours in the political circles of the state. However, Yediyurappa drew curtains by saying that he had discussion with Kumaraswamy regarding the DCC bank of Mandya and there is no need to give any other colour to their meeting.

Speaking about Jawaharlal Nehru, Yediyurappa said, "Nehru is one of great leaders the country has seen. He came out as the best during the independence struggle of India. He is the initiator of development of India. Let us remember him in an honourable manner on his birthday."
