Andhra registers 1,395 new Covid-19 cases, tally 8.56 lakh


Amaravati, Nov 17 (IANS): Andhra Pradesh has registered 1,395 new Covid-19 infections, increasing the state's tally to 8.56 lakh, even as 2,293 more recoveries outnumbered infections on Tuesday.

Krishna district accounted for the highest number of cases in the past 24 hours, 260, followed by West Godavari (247), East Godavari (214), Guntur (199), Chittoor (137) and Visakhapatnam (75).

Among other places, Anantapur (58), Kadapa (52), Srikakulam (37), Vizianagaram (35), Nellore (32), Prakasam (31) and Kurnool (18).

With the new additions, Kurnool's tally is inching closer to the 60,000-mark.

East Godavari continues to shoulder the highest number of cases at 1.2 lakh.

Meanwhile, nine more patients succumbed to the virus in the past 24 hours, taking the state's death toll to 6,890. Chittoor continues to be the district with the highest number of Covid deaths at 812.

However, the southern state is consistently recording an impressive number of recoveries every day.

On Monday, 2,293 more patients recovered from the disease to increase the total number of recoveries to 8.32 lakh.

Of the 8.56 lakh cases, active cases currently stand at 16,985.

In the past 24 hours, Covid-19 tests fell to 66,778 samples. The state has so far conducted over 92.6 lakh tests.
