Bengaluru, Nov 17: The labour unrest and the consequent lock-out of Toyota-Kirloskar, Bidadi unit has finally been resolved with the state government’s intervention and efforts to resolve the conflict between workers and the management.
Deputy chief minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, who is also the district in-charge minister for Ramanagara headed an emergency meeting on Tuesday, and later announced that an important order would be passed banning the protest and also lift the lock-out as per the Labour Dispute Act (Section 3) by Monday evening.
Dr Ashwath Narayan also clarified that production activities should resume from tomorrow (Wednesday) itself.
He asked the workers to report for work and also suggested to the management to make the required preparations.
Before this, he held discussions with workers and management in presence of Shivaram Hebbar labour minister, Gourav Gupta, additional chief secretary, department of industries and others.
As many as 39 workers were suspended after a conflict began between the management and workers in the company which is the single largest automobile manufacturing unit of the state.
Following the suspension of workers, the factory workers resorted to indefinite sit-in-protest leading to the management declaring the lock-out.
The deputy chief minister convinced the workers and representatives of the management by saying: “The state is known for its work culture. This has enabled the robust growth of the industry in the state.’’
"The state has a very conducive environment for investment and growth of industries in entire Asia. It is the responsibility of one and all in the state to contribute to the revival of the economy which is weakened due to COVID-19. The protest and lock-down would not send any positive message,” he said.
The entire world is seeing towards India at this juncture and countries like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan have been enthusiastic to set up their manufacturing plants here. The thoughts of protest and lockdown should not at all emanate in this situation. We should be inspired by the work culture of Japan. Everyone should be aware that there was a very rigorous competition in the market and consumers have many options for cars, Dr AshwathaNarayana advised.
Manjunatha MLA, Magadi, Pradeep secretary, DyCM, Archana, deputy commissioner Ramanagara, Girish superintendent of police Manjunatha, additional labour commissioner were present in the meeting.
